Sams Radio Hams
Chapter Meeting July 10, San Juan Capistrano
The meeting was called to order at 2:45 pm by President, Linda Preston, who then led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Bill Lacy gave the invocation.
Phil MacBride moved that the minutes be approved as printed on the website. Glad Duncan seconded and the membership approved.
Vice President Amy MacBride reported that the Chapter Store will be open and on display at the August Campout.
Treasurer Glenn Schmitt says the chapters balance is $5775. Checks will be available from Linda and Amy while Glenn is traveling during August and September.
Wagon Master Roger Kepner called on Ron Malanosky who reported that the August Campout at San Onofre will start with an outing to the San Clemente Pier. Call Ron to let him know if you have signed up to camp. Roger then mentioned that he does not plan to get a co-host for Boulder Creek, but will ask for help as needed. There will be a catered dinner. During the bike ride simplex communication will be on 144.33 to help eliminate interference with the repeater. The November Midland campout will be similar to old times and include target shooting and re-finding the blowhole. December is scheduled at Golden Palms in Hemet and will include the Dogs for the Deaf Raffle. New Years at Lake Cahuilla has 17 sign-ups so far. Others interested are urged to call Riverside County Parks as soon as possible. Roger suggested that now is the time to think about which campout you want to host in 2011 and get it on the schedule.
New Business: Lucy Huddy is now a Silent Key. Donations in her honor may be made to DFD mentioning Sam�s Radio Hams. A card was sent to her son from the chapter.

Communications: The evening net is operating every night at 8:00.
Good Will: Alma DeSmith reported that Maxine Mooneyham is improving daily and will have another MRI soon. Jan Clements has been having a difficult time with her knee replacement as she has not been able to tolerate her pain medication.
Web Master: Bill DeSmith has added a RV Maintenance site with how-to repair videos on our webpage.
Announcements: Thirty year history books are still available for members who have not received them. See Ron if you can take one to someone.

Chapter Meeting June 11, 2010 at Lake Elsinore Marina and RV Park

The meeting was called to order at

Visitors Lou (KA6VVD) and Darla Figueroa who had previously
been SRH members during the 1980s were introduced, as were Howard and Carmela Remson who represent the Southern California Good Sams.
The May minutes were approved as posted on the website.
Mary Holtzgang made the motion and Bob Abolafia seconded.
Vice President Amy MacBride phoned to say that she could
not attend the meeting, but would be at the campout tomorrow for the anniversary
dinner, and would have supplies for those who needed them.
Treasurer Glenn Schmitt reported that the treasury stood at
approximately $8600, of which $3000 was earmarked to pay for this campout, and
$930 was on hold for DFD.
Wagon Master Roger Kepner thanked Jan and Frank Clements
and Sally and Karl Lassey for this campout.
For the July 10 Metrolink Adventure he asked that we bring handheld
radios, as Ron Malanosky and Ed Ryan will be monitoring 147.51.
We should also bring cash to pay for lunch ($15 each).
There will be an optional one hour historical walking tour about 8 blocks
long ($2 each). July 10 is 'Mooning
Amtrak' day. Thirteen have signed up
so far for the August San Onofre campout.

The September Boulder Creek campout will have a catered dinner and
weather permitting, a picnic at Horseshoe Meadows.

We won 1st place with 150 lbs of tabs at the April Samboree
thanks to a big donation from the Bustos.
Keep giving
Roger proposed that instead of Burritos we serve lunch items at the next
Samboree. Hamburgers, Bratwurst, and
Sloppy Joes along with chips and sodas have been suggested.
Details are being worked out with JoAnn Yett.
The Samboree does not conflict with either Baker to Vegas or the Visalia
DX Convention this year.

lots of praise. In 2009 SRH�s were

secretary at the April Samboree.
Secretary Joan Malanosky read a letter from Lucy Huddy
formally asking Sam's Radio Hams to assist with the Whitney Classic Bicycle Ride
on
Vice President Amy MacBride showed the awards which the
Chapter had won at the Samboree. Our
Chapter books covering 30 years won 1st place, we received flags for
1st place in CA and Top-ten in the nation for Dogs for the Deaf
fundraising, Bob Reitzel won 1st place for Molly's tricks and the
Schmitts won 2nd place in
the Blind Rodeo. Amy also showed a
picture showing the plaque naming Sam's Radio Hams at the Dogs for the Deaf new
visitor center, and the certificate that had been presented to us recognizing
our 30 years as a chapter of Good Sams.
Treasurer Glenn Schmitt reported that after the bills were
paid for this campout, we would have about $6000 in the treasury.
$950 of this is money designated for Dogs for the Deaf.
Wagon Master Roger Kepner thanked our campout hosts, Bill
and Madelyn Lacy and Max and Doris Smith for an excellent job.
He announced that at present the 2011 Samboree again conflicts with the
Baker to Vegas race. Roger is
talking to Joann Yett to see if it is possible to make a change.
In June our 30th anniversary campout is scheduled.
So far there are 17 signups.
The deadline is June 3. The July
outing is the Metrolink adventure to
New Business: Linda asked if we had any nominations for Good Sams CA State Director. We all supported Joann Yett for re-election.
State Asst. Director, Dennis Rudd, is heading a Salvation Army Christmas Toy Drive. He invites any interested persons to donate new toys.
Linda handed out clean-up bags to each of us.
We will use them in our own neighborhoods.

Treasurer Glenn Schmitt reported that membership is about 48 at present
of which only about 20 are regularly camping with us.
He suggested that hosts attempt to recruit co-hosts from among those who
have not hosted before, whenever possible.
Communications: Linda reported for Bob Dahl that radio
propagation seems to be improving as more sunspots are appearing.
Good Will:
Linda read a card from Maxine Mooneyham.
She really appreciates all our cards and letters.
She will be spending her chemo weeks in

Chapter Meeting April 16, 2010, Lancaster Samboree
The April meeting was called to order at 4:05 p.m. by Vice President, Amy MacBride
The Vice President led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Amy led us in a moment of silence to remember those who might need our thoughts.

Amy introduced Beth Hay and Bonsai, the Dogs for Deaf representatives.
Vice President Amy MacBride has new badges ($4.00) and new lanyards ($2.00).
Phil MacBride moved to accept the minutes of the March 3 meeting as posted on the website. It was seconded and approved by the membership.
Treasurer
Glenn Schmitt: Reported approximately $6700 in the check book. This includes $1500 that has been collected for the May campout at Pechanga and approximately $600 for Dogs for the Deaf.Wagon Master Roger Kepner: Thanked Karl and Sally Lassey for hosting this campout. He reported on the May campout at Pechanga with the Laceys and Smiths as hosts. Karl Lassey reported briefly on the 30th anniversary reunion to be held in June at Lake Elsinore. Roger also talked about the July outing to San Juan Capistrano and the August outing to Clio in Northern California
Committee Reports:
Membership: Glenn asked if people were receiving the e-mail roster updates. Everybody said that they were receiving them.
Amy MacBride reported next year�s Samboree will be held April 6 � 10 at the Lancaster Fairgrounds.
Lucy Huddy reminded everybody about the bike ride September 24 -26. She also thanked Amy for submitting the Chapter Books for people to see at the Samboree.

Chapter Meeting March 3, 2010 at Davis Camp, Az.
The March meeting was called to order at 9:03 am by President Linda Preston.
The President then led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Dick Bruno introduced new members Steve and Lindsay Eddy, KD6ROY and KD6ROX, who are friends of Jim Herd and Jennifer Ware and live in Minden, NV.
Vice President Amy MacBride has new badges ($4.00) and new lanyards ($2.00).
Secretary Joan Malanosky: Minutes of the January 22 meeting were moved to accept as posted on the website by Phil MacBride and seconded by Vi Barrett and approved by the membership. Joan thanked Glenda Schnelbach for filling in for her as secretary at Quartzsite.
Treasurer Glenn Schmitt: Reported approximately $5500 in the check book. Of that, $582 is money earned at Quartzsite for Dogs for the Deaf, and $100 is a reservation payment to Golden Village for the December Campout.
Wagon Master: In Roger Kepner�s absence, Karl Lassey reported that there are 9 rigs signed up so far for the April 14-18 Samboree at Lancaster. The May campout will be at Pechanga with the Smiths and Lacys as hosts. A planning meeting for the 30th anniversary campout will follow this meeting. Ron Malanosky showed a brief glance of the 30th anniversary book which will be given to those members attending the campout.

Membership: Glenn will send out a new roster any time new members are added.
Good Will: Alice Hoke reports that Jack is about finished with his Cancer treatment, and they hope to be able to attend the Anniversary Campout. Alma DeSmith says that Maxine Mooneyham is recovering from her surgery and she and Bobby also hope to be at the June Campout. Alma�s shoulder is about healed. Ed Schnelbach is planning to be at the Avi Samboree.
H-O-G Editor & Web Master Bill DeSmith: The March HOG was e-mailed last week.
Recruitment/ARRL Dick Bruno: see above new members. Dick also reports that during February there was at least one sunspot each day!
Sgt. at Arms Dan Rowlan: Has collected $3.00 so far this campout.
New Business: Charlotte Schmitt reported that it is possible to receive the Dogs for the Deaf newsletter on line, thereby saving DFD money.
Linda thanked Jim Ware for conducting the Fox Hunt, Jim Herd and Steve Eddy for showing us the glider, Frank Clements for leading us to petroglyphs, and especially our hosts, Sue and Gene Crabb, Amy and Phil MacBride, and Mary Holtzgang for the wonderful campout and Western Dinner.

Chapter Meeting December 31, 2009 at Santee Lakes
The meeting was called to order at 9:03 am by President Linda Preston.
The President then led the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by a recording of God Bless the USA played by Jeff Fort.
The invocation was given by Chaplain Bill Lacy.

Joan Malanosky introduced guests and former members Alan and Janet Broughton, KF6YCO and KF6YCN, who were visiting from Texas. Forrest Hogue and Dolores were also welcomed as they had come for the day. Linda commented that the Chapter was pleased to have Jack and Alice Hoke camping with them and Jack thanked everyone for the get well card which the Chapter had sent him.
Vice President Amy MacBride reported that the Chapter Store was open.
The minutes of the December 2 meeting were approved as posted on the website.
Treasurer Glenn Schmitt reported that the treasury stands at approximately $5800. HOG costs are significantly lower since most members are receiving their HOG via the internet.
Wagon Master Roger Kepner gave a detailed report on future scheduled campouts. Highlights included:
President Linda added that everyone is invited to the All Chapter SoCal Good Sam meeting on January 14-17 in Hemet.
Committee Reports:
Membership: Glenn reports that 45 members have renewed their memberships, with 5 declining to do so. 13 families have not been heard from. Glenn will contact them.
Communications: Bob Dahl needs two additional net control operators for the Sunday Net. Each operator will need to lead the Net for one Sunday every other month (six times per year). Please contact Bob if you can help. Bob commended Roger for volunteering to do "double duty" covering his week every month. Bob said that the evening nets are attracting RV owning hams. Two prospective new members will be at Quartzite. Les Cobb has been contacted and will be in charge of communications for the Whitney Classic.
Dogs for the Deaf: Roger reported that the Quartzite Book Sale will be his last book sale and that any books left from the 15 boxes will be given away afterward. Barbara Schleuse suggested that extras be sold for a dollar a shopping bag full at the end of the sale. This met with approval. Joan thanked Alan Broughton for his donation of the HF equipment from his home station which will be sold with profits going to DFD.
H-O-G Editor & Web Master: Bill DeSmith announced that all items for the January HOG are due by the morning of January 4.
Recruitment: Dick Bruno said that sunspots are increasing which bodes well for our nets. Frick�n�Frack may be restarted if Sunday 40 meter nets become readable.
Sgt. at Arms: Charlotte Schmitt, filling in for Dan Rowland, collected 50 cents.
HOG Publisher: Roger is now doing the printing on his computer as there are so few are being sent via mail
Good Will: Maxine Mooneyham is still waiting for a date for her brain surgery. She reports that she is feeling ok and thanks everyone for their prayers and cards.
Unfinished Business: Amy reminded us that Mary Holtzgang is collecting used Christmas cards for use in making cards to send to overseas servicemen. Cards can be brought to any campout or given directly to Amy or Mary.
New Business: Glenn reports that the Chapter banner was last used at the August Oceano campout. He urges all who attended to check their rigs and garages for it. It usually is stored in a 30 inch long tube. Glenn will check with the RV park. If it cannot be located a new banner will need to be bought at Quartzite.

Linda announced that there was stuff left for sale.
Also Linda gave us an update on Jack Hoke - sounds good and optimistic.
Jack thanked all for their cards and thoughts.

Karl reported that Jack has Multi Myelomas Aremia. Karl also reported
that Gene Crabb's son had passed away from lung cancer and that Don Fletcher was
in Mexico and would be home in a couple of weeks.

reported that the dues were due. There is about 7600.00 in the back with about
3000.00 of that being DFD monies

As of today there were 19 signups.
Quartzsite "Hamfest" is January 17th thru the 24th.
SRH campout is the 20th thru the 22nd.
The State committee meeting will be in January.

Bill DeSmith reported that the January HOG will be out late, also the web site
has a December motif.
HOG publisher and DFD:
Roger reported that there is only 15 HOG's being mailed at 44 cents a copy so
that the cost is 89 cents to be mailed out.
Ginger, our latest dog is trained for both hearing impaired and autistic
use. Raffa is doing fine.
The new building is now up and running.
Recruitment and ARRL Rep:
Dick says no news on recruitment but that there is another senate bill in the
works besides HR 2160. More
information from ARRL to come out later.

Glenn reported dues are now due.

The November campout will be at Lone Wolf Colony in Apple Valley following the
Samboree. The Christmas campout is coming up at Emerald Dessert and also New
Years at Santee. Quartzsite will be
a no host campout this year. Kepners, Bruno's and Schnelbachs will be the
co-hosts. April 14th starts the 2010
Samboree.

September Chapter Meeting Minutes-- September 27, 2009

It was reported that Frank Clements was doing quite well and also Don Fletcher is progressing nicely.

The wagon master, Ed Schnelbach, reported on the campouts scheduled: the October is the Samboree and Don and Glad will be the Co-hosts. The November campout will be at Lone Wolf Colony in Apple Valley following the Samboree. The Christmas campout is coming up at Emerald Dessert and also New Years at Santee. HOG publisher and DFD: The DFD Garage sale netted $712.00 - Our dogs Raffa and Ginger are doing great. Questions were asked about the 2008 patches - Roger will look into that.
Recruitment and ARRL Rep: Dick reported that last week's sun spots report showed significant activity. Maybe good news for improving our nets. Also reported that the ARRL is adopting guide lines and recommendations on the appropriate use of amateur radio. This as a result of the recent hub-bub over employed hams providing services for their employers.

August Chapter Meeting Minutes-- August 11, 2009
Pacific Dunes Ranch RV Resort, Oceano
The meeting was called to order at 9:02 AM by Vice-President Linda Preston
Vice-President Linda then led in the Pledge of Allegiance

Officer Reports:
The Minutes of the previous meeting were accepted as given. Motion by Phil MacBride, seconded by Mort Eriksen to accept the minutes.
Linda said the Store is open for badges.
Health and Welfare report given by Linda Preston and Glenn Schmitt: Some get well cards were sent. The following was noted:
Karl Lassey is home and doing well.
Bobby Mooneyham is having a procedure tomorrow.
Don Fletcher is having chemo and radiation treatments.
Norm Johnson is in rehab in So. Pasadena. Cards would be appreciated.
Ron Malanosky is doing well after knee surgery.
Treasurers Report was given by Glenn Schmitt. We had $4,454, but advance payment of about $2,000 for Santee Lakes in January was required. This will be a 3-day campout with the first day an early day. Dogs for the Deaf has $600+. The upcoming yard sale and Samboree will add to this amount. $100 was donated for door prizes at the Samboree. Dues for next year will be asked for soon. The amount has not been established yet, and $5 goes to the Good Sam Club. Costs are up especially for The HOG.

Wagon Masters report given by Linda Preston. Linda thanked hosts Glenn & Charlotte Schmitt and co-Hosts Bill & Alma DeSmith for a fine campout here at Pacific Dunes Ranch.
September is the Whitney Classic Bike Ride and Boulder Creek RV campout. Hosts are Dick & Marcia Bruno and co-Hosts Karl & Sally Lassey. Dick Bruno and Roger Kepner need people for the bike ride to man the stations. They stay overnight in Death Valley and work with Good Sam volunteers.
October is the Socal Good Sam Oktoberfest & Samboree. Joan Malanosky and Marcia Bruno will head up the burrito team. A flyer and sign up sheets were distributed. You can also signup on the website.
November will be at the Lone Wolf Colony Health Ranch about an hour due east of Lone Pine in Apple Valley and will be an extension of the Samboree. The Hosts are Jeff & Jo Fort and co-Hosts Jan & Frank Clements. The hosts gave suggestions for places to visit in the area. There will be a chicken & ribs dinner.
December will be at the Emerald Desert RV Park in Palm Desert. Karl & Sally Lassey and the 2009 Officers will be hosts. There is a rec room, pools and other amenities. There will be a Dogs for the Deaf Raffle which has made over $5,000 in the past and one dog is now an SRH dog. Members are asked to get or make donations for the raffle.
New Years Eve will be in Santee Lakes There are paddle boats, hiking and a clubhouse. There will be a New Years Eve Party. Hosts are Don & Barbara Schleuse and Co-Hosts Jim & Linda Preston.
Unfinished Business
Dick Bruno used a Gordon West Booth at the Orange County Fair for recruitment. They worked in four-hour shifts and found it difficult to recruit. They spent a lot of hours with very few prospects. Dick is looking for new approaches to recruiting. Alma suggested a 520 Simplex setup at the RV show in Pomona since there will be hams present.New Business
Charlotte said Roger & Carole Kepner had a flyer at the fair about last years dog helping a deaf person and autistic children. An article will be coming from Roger.
On September 19 there will be a Dogs for the Deaf yard sale in Orange at Roger & Caroles home. September 6-18 you can bring donations or the morning of the sale.
5-7 AM will be setup, 7 AM-2 PM the sale, and 2-4 PM cleanup. Paperback books can be brought to the yard sale, Samboree, or Quartzsite.

Boulder Creek registration will be in the next HOG - Marcia urges all to get there reservations in early. October is the Samboree and Don and Glad will be the Co-hosts. The November campout will be at Lone Wolf Colony in Apple Valley per Jo Fort.
The 2nd week in June of 2010 will be the celebration of SRH's 30 years. Jan Clements has reservations made for Lake Elsinore.

newsletter. After much discussion, it was
decided that the issue would be dropped without action. There will be a Memorial
Service on Sunday of the State campout to honor those that are no longer with

SRH would have to join ACCARO - $20.00 for the year.
Linda Preston made a motion that SRH join ACCARO and buy a flex holder
for flyers not to exceed $50.00.

Assistant Sgt. at Arms Sally Lassey reported that she has collected $2.00 so far this campout. She was also given a special gift whistle from Ron Malanoski. Sally gladly accepted the gift.
HOG Editor, Bill DeSmith reported that the HOG will go out via snail mail, e-mail and through a link on the web site. That would require a password for members only to open. Bill gave the attendees the password. It will be each members choice on how they want to receive the HOG.
HOG publisher and DFD: Roger Kepner report that a total of $6900.00 is the total amount collected last year. Roger also gave us some other ways to contribute our monies. There is Dogs for Autistic children, special needs dogs, building fund and sponsoring a dog for the deaf. The was decided that our monies this year will go for a hearing dog. The membership was polled regarding the financial situation described in the "Prez Sez" column. The result was 95% were in favor of increasing our dues to $20.00 a year.

Jo Ann Yett reported that at the time they left home there were 92 rigs registered for the Samboree. Jo Ann also explained the reasoning for the increase in dues from $3.00 to $5.00.

Marcia thanked everyone for their thoughts and prayers during her eye surgery. Everything turned out great. Amy MacBride said that Tom and Mary also thank everyone for the cards and prayers for Tom. He is doing real well. Joan asked us to remember Betty Martin as she is having serious neck and back problems. Also Jan Clements is scheduled to have surgery done on her knee June 10th.

Linda Preston, wagon master, had the hosts of the next campouts give a report on their campouts. There is no campout scheduled for November. There was some discussion as to a place. Charlotte Schmitt suggested that we not have a campout in November because of the heavy schedules in September, October and December
OLD BUSINESS:
a. The president reported that $250.00 has been collected to be sent to ARRL so SRH can have a brick at headquarters with our chapter name on it.
NEW BUSINESS:
b. Chapter received a letter from Lucy Huddy stating that she will be doing the Whitney Classic as planned. And would like our help as usual.
c. Ed Schnelbach reported on the State Committee meeting, The committee wants to raise the state dues to $5.00 per family or rig. There was some discussion and it was moved and seconded than the chapter vote against the raise. There is some discussion also that the committee wants to raise the raffle monies from $50.00 per chapter to 100.00. After some discussion the consensus was that SRH is against the raise.

d. Vice President and communications – Karl has the big patches and single badge holders – Do not have the double holders. The chapter will be helping Les Cobb with the Whitney Classic.

i. Dogs for the deaf – Roger reported that he has not heard from Robin in a while so he will be contacting her/ Carol is accepting items for the garage sale to be held on the 21st at their house in Orange. Sign-up sheets are available.
j. Sgt. At Arms – Carol has collected $1.75 this campout in fines.
ANNOUNCEMENTS FROM THE FLOOR;
Ed reported that the state committee is considering reviving the Sam O Gram and distributing it by e-mail because of lack of funds for postage.
Glenn suggested that we e-mail the HOG out in the event that the state dues are raised. Ron was opposed to the idea. Discussion followed and no action was taken.

The meeting was called to order at 9:00 a.m. by Glenn Schmitt, Treasurer, as the President and Vice President were unable to attend the campout.
The invocation was given by Linda Preston
Guests attending the campout were Sherm and Fran Nekritz. There were no first time members in attendance.
The April minutes were corrected as follows: Guests attending the campout were Dr. Peter and Jane Griffith and Marguerite Ware. The minutes were approved as corrected.
Good will:
Bob Shaper is not well and was unable to attend this campout as planned.
Marcia Bruno is doing fine after her cataract surgery.
Announcements:
Dick Bruno will collect donations for a ARRL brick to be given in the name of SAMS RADIO HAMS. One member pledged $50 bringing the total pledged to $200 by 4 members. We need a minimum of $250.
Glenn Schmitt gave the Treasurers Report. It was approved.
Linda Preston, Wagonmaster, had the hosts of upcoming campouts give a report. July will be a group gettogether for lunch at Phillipe’s Restuarant in Los Angeles which Roger Kepner is organizing. Attendeees are asked to arrive via metro rail or metro link. The date is to be determined. Jeff Fort, cohost of the August campout at Big Bear, gave a summary of planned activities and stated there are 4 previously reserved sites remaining to be claimed by members.

Ed Schnelbach suggested that we need a representative at the Good Sam state committee meeting on May 18. Since the current officers are unable to attend he volunteered to represent our group and needs an authorizing letter from the president.

Dogs for the Deaf – Roger Kepner has building fund pins and 2007 rockers available for all members.
Doris Smith donated $40 for Dogs for the Deaf as a result of the book pins sold at Tucalota.
The garage sale to benefit DFD will be held June 21, 2008 at the Kepner’s home. Signups sheets to assist will be posted at the June campout.

New business: Jack promoted an idea that the past president of the chapter be given the first spot in the food line. All agreed, especially Ed.

Linda Preston reported that she found some foldable orange safety cones at the RV store for around 6-7 dollars each. Nancy is now accredited by W5YI to do VE testing.

Minutes of the Emerald Desert Meeting
December 7, 2006
President Roger Kepner called the meeting to order, led the pledge of allegiance and invited hugs. He then called for a moment of silence to remember those who were not with us.
Roger introduced Warren and Rosalie Wright as members we haven’t seen for a while. They now live in Arizona. There were no guests.
Glad Duncan moved to accept the minutes as published in the HOG. Bob Abalofia seconded and all approved with one correction. At one point Lassey was printed instead of Lacy.
Announcements: Harry Hinz announced that Fred Oess passed away last Sunday. He had been in hospice for the past 4 months. He died in his sleep. He was from Germany and had been an engineer, yachtsman and had several patents to his credit. The Chapter will send a card to Dusty.
DFD : We will be having a book sale at Quartzite. Les Cobb will bring some books donated by a Ham in Sacramento.
Ron Malanosky gave his report for Dogs for the Deaf. Since 2002 we have climbed steadily from $500 to $4100 in 2005 in donations to DFD. We were treated very well at the Samboree. We received the flags for the top Chapter in California and being in the top 10 in the US. We all received DFD calendars from DFD CEO Robin Dixon. It is possible to sponsor a dog for $5000 in donations and we are well within the range of raising $5000 this year. If we are successful, we will be able to name the dog. For the raffle at this campout we have about $1400 in prizes. Have the prizes to the clubhouse at 2:00. Buy tickets at Happy Hour. Write your checks to DFD.

Treasurer : Glenn Schmitt says there is $8222 in the bank account but it will be back to normal next week after all expenses are paid for this campout.

Wagonmaster : Karl Lassey has concluded his duties for this year. Phil McBride has already taken over and has one-half of the year scheduled. Dick Bruno will be sending out an e-mail regarding the New Year’s campout at Lake Cahuilla next week. If not received by Friday, let Dick know. The Quartzfest campout at mile marker 99 will be combined with the Ham Radio group. We will try to co-ordinate activities. Our scheduled campout is January 24-26. We will be having a book sale to benefit DFD. Less Cobb writes a column in World Radio and gives SRH a good mention. If you want to join the Quartzfest group for Hobo Stew, bring a can of veggies and $1.00 to pay for the meat.
In March the Lasseys and Ryans will be hosing a campout at The Golden Valley Resort in Hemet. They have 3 pools, spas, and shuffleboard. The dates will be March 5 - 7. Phil still needs volunteers to host for July, September, October, and November.

October 3, 2006
President, Roger Kepner called the meeting to order and led the Pledge of Allegiance. A moment of silent prayer and hugs followed.
Glad Duncan moved to accept the minutes of last meeting as published on web site. Karl Lassey seconded. All approved.
Joan Malanosky announced the receipt of a large bag of tabs from Ginas family and a bag from Mike Johnson WA6GPP.
The movie museum in Lone Pine has tours with no admittance fees, but donations are gladly accepted. The director will be available to answer any questions. Visit the museum on your own.
Howard Wedell is still maintaining the roster. Please notify him of any changes.
Glad Duncan distributed the minutes of the Whitney Classic debriefing meeting.
Ed Schnelbach gave a report on the State Committee meeting. At the Samboree they will have free donuts one day only. Ed is on the budget committee for the state for next year. There will only be 2 State Committee meetings per year. Expenses for state officers will be reimbursed for mileage only.
Discussion followed regarding the Samboree.
Glenn Schmitt gave the Treasurers report. There is $6,834.00 less expenses for this camp out in the bank. The second payment to Emerald Desert is due now. Sign-ups are due by November 28,2006. There will be a $1.00 per day charge per pet.
Karl Lassey thanked Frank and Jan for the 4-wheel drive trip. He also thanked the hosts for this camp out.
Sign ups for the Samboree are due October 10, 2006.
Roger Kepner reported that we have improved the recipe for the breakfast burritos. We will also be selling orange and apple juice. We will need 3 warming ovens. He will talk to Walt Willie about electricity. We will also need a microwave.
Ron Malanosky talked about how much fun the Samboree is and encouraged all who can to attend.
There is a Thursday night fish fry at the Lancaster Elks Club and we will be taking advantage of this great meal.
Midland is an unofficial camp out. There are no hosts. At least 14 rigs have indicated they would like to go. The dates are November 13 15.
The Holiday Party is December 5 7. Catered dinner will be December 6. Host provided continental breakfast and the raffle will be on December 7. Ron Malanosky spoke about the raffle. Everyone is to bring something for the raffle. Hand made items or new items are preferred. Also go to your local merchants and ask for donations. Ask Ron for letters to take to merchants. Ron also has all the various DFD patches our chapter has earned.
Marcia Bruno needs to know your campsite number for the New Years Eve camp out. You may still get a space by going on the Internet or calling. They have frequent cancellations.
Ed and Glenda Schnelbach will host Quartzite. Les Cobb spoke about the Quartzfest at mile marker 99. Les would like to integrate activities with Quartzfest. Their schedule is on the Quartzfest web site.
Phil McBride will be the Wagonmaster for next year. He needs people to start volunteering to host camp outs. We have Lasseys hosting March, Lacys and Smiths hosting May and Kepners hosting June so far.

August There was a discussion as to whether to go to Doheney Beach and pay the $10.00 per car for parking or go to "Baby Beach" for free. The water is not acceptable for swimming at Baby Beach. The chapter voted to go to Doheney Beach.
September Ron Malanosky is encouraging everyone to come to help with the Whitney Classic. He announced the agenda and menu for the camp out following the Whitney Classic at Boulder Creek Campground.

Dogs for the Deaf Ron Malanosky announced Dogs for the Deaf has received a 4 star rating per a letter from Charity Navigator. This is their second 4 star rating. As of mid year we have deposited to our treasury $1153.66 for Dogs for Deaf and $225.00 directly to DFD. Ron has patches for anyone who has not received theirs.

As of May 31st the balance is: $5,145. Our donation for Dogs for the Deaf in the amount of $1,153 was sent in. Twenty-five sites were reserved for the December Christmas campout at Emerald Desert. A deposit of $250 was given. A check for $50 was sent to the Good Sam Samboree as a donation for raffle prizes. There were no corrections. The motion to accept the Treasurers report was made by Marcia Bruno and seconded by Dick Bruno. The motion passed unanimously.
A Thank You letter was received from Mona and Ernest Celeya, the Good Sam Samboree Prizemaster, for our donation of $50.
Wagon Master Karl Lasseys Report: Thanks to the Jojoba hosts Harry & Nancy Hinz and Dusty and Fred Oess for a great campout. The next campout will be at Oak Creek RV Park, July 10-12. You may come in early and stay late. There are 15 rigs presently

Treasurer: Glen Schmitt reports a balance of $6,670 at the end of April. He paid $350 to Emerald Desert for a deposit for the Christmas Party and a partial payment to Pechanga. Madolyn Lacy headed the audit of the 2005. books. Glenn Schmitt assisted.
Wagonmaster: Karl Lassey introduced Harry Hinz who will be hosting the next campout Harry reported on the amenities at Jojoba Hills. Camping is available in the boondock area at $2.50 per night. Spaces are available with hook-ups but they are not together. Nights are cool but the days can be hot in June. Generators can be used from 8 in the morning until 8 at night.
July 10-12 Campout will be at Oak Creek Park, hosted by Don & Mary Jane Fletcher and Phil & Amy McBride. It is located east of El Cajon. Everyone decorate their rigs in Red, White & Blue. There is a Casino and an Outlet Mall nearby.
August 23 will be a picnic at Dana Point Harbor.
September Ron Malanosky and co-hosts are planning a Polish Cultural Evening with a Polish meal.
Communications: Jim Ware reported the bands have been pretty bad. In spite of that condition there were 30+ check-ins last week for the Sunday net..
Hog Editor: Bill DeSmith reported the deadline for the next HOG will be Monday May 22.
Hog Publishers: Tak and Gina Tokunaga are happy to do the HOG publishing and distribution. They hand deliver a HOG to Gene Thompson. He is on oxygen full time.

Dogs for Deaf: Ron Malanosky explained the patches and distributed them to those who had not already received them. There has been $46 taken in this campouts; $16 in book sales, $10 for CDs made by Jim Ware, and $20 donated by Don & Vi Barrett. There is approximately $1400 raised so far this year.

Walt Willie is the only candidate for State Representative. Ron Malanosky moved to make a chapter vote for Walt Willie. Bob Shaper seconded. Chapter approved with one opposing vote by Bob Reitzel. Roger Kepner will report a chapter vote for Willie. Howard and Camilla Remson are our area representatives.
Most chapters make donations to Samboree for door prizes. We have always made a $50 donation. Ron Malanosky made a motion to send $50 to Samboree for door prizes. Jim Preston seconded. All approved.

Hosts Bill and Madolyn Lacy and Max and Doris Smith have 16 reservations so far. The reservation form is on the Internet. Notify Bill Lacy if you are going to sign up. Be sure to bring money for the casino. June will be in Jojoba Hills in Aguanga.

Tak and Gina Tokunaga still have their motorhome for sale. The price has been lowered to $27,500.
Vice President: Ed announced that the Chapter store is open and has complete stock of merchandise.
There was one cancellation for the campout. Don and Vi Barrett did not come because Don has shingles.
The dinner tonight will be at 4:00 p.m.
Treasurer: The balance in the account presently is $6693.00 according to Treasurer Glenn Schmitt. We still have to pay for this campout, which will be approx. $1000. There was some discussion as to whether we should have a minimum campout fee of $5.00. Ron Malanosky pointed out that if has always been up to the host depending on how much they are spending. No host should ever have out of pocket expenses. Also when a campground gives the host a free site, the money for that goes back in the general fund.
Gina Tokunaga is using cancer research stamps for the newsletter. There is an extra 2cents charge for each stamp.
Wagonmaster: Karl Lassey thanked the hosts and co-hosts. All hosts scheduled for this year have been volunteers. They have all approached him to volunteer.
Glenn Schmitt announced the campout for next month. The location is Pine Ranch in Banning. It is a full service campground with clubhouse. They have a trip to Oak Glenn planned. There have been 15 sign-ups so far. The last date to sign up is March 13. Campout is April 4. 5,6.
Bill Lacy announced the May campout at Pechanga May 2, 3, and 4. Deadline for registration is March 29.
Communications: Jim Ware announced the nets have been good lately.
Hog Editor: Bill DeSmith thanks all for sending items on time. March 27 will be the deadline for April newsletter. Photographers are doing great getting pictures for HOG.

Dogs for the Deaf: Ron Malanosky announced that for the 4th straight year we have been Honor Chapter in the country. This year we are No. 16. We are also the State of California Top Dog Chapter (No. 1). We have been entitled to receive patches all these years. We will be given a gold patch indicating a chapter who has donated over $2000 per year. It is the highest patch given. Each year we get a dog bone patch to place under the gold patch and a year patch to add to our blue patch. We would like to see all these patches worn on vest or jacket.
We are still selling CDs and 5-year books. The CDs are $5.00 for older ones and $10.00 for the new ones. All money goes to Dogs for the Deaf.

The meeting was called to order and welcome extended by President Roger Kepner. Roger led the pledge of allegiance. A moment of silence was observed to reflect and think about absent friends and hugs were given.
Introduced were Bill and Doe Saderup, KF6ORR and KF6ORS first time members. Alice suggested introducing Gene and Sue Crabb. They are not new members but have not camped with SRH for some time.
Janet Abolafia turned in tabs for Ronald McDonald House. The tabs were from Larry Wulstein.
Secretary: Bob Abolafia moved to accept the minutes as posted on the Web site. Glad Duncan 2nd and all approved.
Dogs for the Deaf: Ron Malanosky reported the final amount for 2005 was $4099.35. No final word has been received from DFD but it appears we will be getting the awards and patches for 2005. He thanked all that donated books for the sale at this campout.
Frank Clements has a Kenwood 940 radio for sale. The radio was given to Bob Reitzel who donated it for sale to benefit DFD. The high bid prior to this meeting had been $600. Ed Schnelbach was the final top bidder at $650.00
Bobby Mooneyham donated $10.00, which he won in a bet with Ron over a football game.

Vice President: Ed Schnelbach reported the company store was open. He also thanked everyone for being so generous at our Dogs for the Deaf Raffle.
Treasurer: Don Duncan reported a bank balance of $6,634.00 as of November 30, 2005. The raffle netted $2,310.00. The Hitching Post donated $100.00 towards DFD and we have $958.00 from other sources. We have raised approximately $3,394 for DFD. Glad asked that we applaud Ed and Glenda for all their hard work this year. Madolyn Lacy moved we accept the Treasurers report. Mary Holzgang seconded. Motion carried.
Wagon Master: Harry Hinz thanked all the officers for the breakfast. Karl Lassey gave us an updated campout schedule for 2006. May 2-4 will be hosted by the Lacys and Smiths at Pechanga, Harry and Nancy to host at Big Bear in June. This will all be in the next HOG.
Amy reported she had the Palm Springs Follies tickets and anyone needing them before the campout to come see her. She can order more tickets. Roger reported on the New Years campout. Carole will be contacting us to see what dish to bring. A salad or a dessert. The hosts will make 4 different soups. Harry thanked all the hosts and co hosts for the entire year.
HOG/ARRL/Webmaster: Bill DeSmith reported the FCC broadband on power lines are having trouble making rulings. The major company working positively with the ARRL is Motorola. The smaller companies are making it more difficult.
Tak and Ginas motor home is on the web site For Sale. They are asking $29,000.00. The directions to Quartzsite have changed. Bill will notify everyone who signs up the best way to get there. Tak and Gina had nothing else to add.
Communications: Ron Malanosky reported we are one year away from the bottom of the sun cycle. Last Tuesday all readings were 0. The geomagnetic disturbances are low. The 40 meter net has benefited by going on daylight saving time.

VE : No customers no report. Bob Reitzel tests every 2nd Saturday of every even month at his house. The FCC is still up in arms over the code test requirements.
Goodwill; Bob and Shirley Schaper were in a car accident. Tom McKernie had a knee replacement. He is home and doing well. Al and Gretchen Kaufman have colds and had to cancel their reservation for the campout.
Gina has plumerias for sale. She has reservations for Lake Cahuilla she cannot use.

Jan Clements reported on the status of the December campout preparation. Jan congratulated the newly elected 2006 Officers.
VP Report: The Chapter Store will be open at the end of the meeting. DFD will send missing patches. Ed reported that we netted $600 from the Samboree Burrito sale. Congratulations to Roger and Carole and the other workers. Mentioned the effective use of a BurritoCart.
Treasurer's Report: Treasury balance about $6800 with a couple of items not paid. Twenty-three (23) rigs signed up for the Holiday campout. Two (2) more will stay in the local motel. Thus far in 2005, we have accumulated $957 for the DFD.
Wagonmaster's Report: Karl Lassey reported on each of the campouts scheduled for 2006. Only June, August, and September remain to be Hosted. He called upon the membership to volunteer for these missing three months.
Hog editor/ Webmaster/ ARRL Report: Bill DeSmith reported that the items for the December H-O-G are due November 28. The Website has a Thanksgiving motive. No ARRL items.
Communications: Ron Malanosky reported that his analysis of past propagation cycles suggests a faster recovery after the minimum is reached than the downwards slope going to the minimum. Jan Clements asked the YL's to join with her on the YL Net on Tuesday evenings at 7:30PM on 3.918.5.

New Business: Thanks to the Hosts Jack and Alice, and Ron and Joan Malanosky for a fine campout. Ron Malanosky suggested that attendees visit the Midland 'museum' located within walking distance of the camp spot. The 'museum' has several picture books with text and photos from when Midland was inhabited and not the ghost town it is today.

Presidents announcements: Jan welcomed our 3 bachelor men. Bill, Bill and Richard. "It is so good to have you with us". Amy talked about the Holiday Party at Emerald Desert Resort December 8-10. We will have the DFD raffle a catered dinner and the officers will serve a breakfast.
Vice President: Ed Schnelbach has lanyards, badges, and clips for sale. He and Roger attended the State Committee meeting. We will sell burritos at the Samboree. We had a trial run at this campout. He thanked everyone for the feed back. We will be able to use the kitchen but not the stove. Ron reminded everyone to sign up by Oct. 12 for the better price. He needs the form in the HOG filled out for our reserved parking.
Treasurer: Don Duncan reported a bank balance of $6100.00. We will have $4700.00 by toMorro. Ron Malanosky has $27.00 from the sale of the 5-year anniversary booklet.

Karl announced he is looking for volunteers for other campouts. May hosts are the Lacys and Smiths, July the Fletchers and MacBrides.
We discussed going to Quartzite for our Feb. meeting. Quartzfest at mile marker 99 has lots of ham activities going on. The web page is www.quartzfest.org. We held a vote on going to mile marker 99 vs Rice Ranch. Quartzfest at mile marker 99 was the winner. The Mooneyhams volunteered to host. De Smiths and Schmitts to co-host. The Malanoskys volunteered to host Boulder Creek after the bike ride. The Lasseys will co-host.
ARRL-HOG-Webmaster: Bill DeSmith said items for the HOG should be in the last week of the month. Hams have been helping in the Hurricane Relief Effort. Ballots for new officers are in the HOG. Send them to Amy. Tak and Gina have been stalwarts in getting the HOG in the mail as soon as it is delivered to them.
Communications: Ron Malanosky said the bands have still been terrible and will not be much better until mid 2007.
VE Testing: Jack Hoke has no customers and no report.

The meeting was called to order by President Jan Clements at 9:03. The pledge was recited. Frank Hubbard gave he invocation. Hugs were exchanged.
Bobby and Maxine Mooneyham have their daughter Kelly visiting them. Jan announced the officers had voted to accept Rudy and Lucille Leemhuis as new members. Rudy works the 3rd Tuesday of each month at the Queen Mary in the radio room. He can be reached at 145.22
A motion to approve the August minutes was made by Mary Holzgang. Ed Schnelbach seconded. Motion carried.
President's announcements:
The Good Sam Club had asked our chapter if we wanted to contribute to the Hurricane Relief Fund. The officers decided since so many of us had already contributed we would continue to have Dogs for the Deaf be our main charity this year. We will have a raffle at the Holiday Party. If you want a letter to take to your local merchant contact secretary Amy. She will send you a personalized one. All proceeds will go to Dogs for the Deaf.
Amy asked anyone interested in going to the Palm Springs Follies on Dec. 30th at a discount price of $42.00 to contact her. We need 4 more to get the group price.
A mini golf tournament will be at 1:00. Happy hour with no munchies at 4:00 with the Korean barbecue prepared by Mr. and Mrs. Lee at 5:00. A tape on Korea will be shown.
Vice President report:
Ed Schnelbach will be going to the Good Sam committee meeting on Saturday and will order more supplies. He has DFD tee shirts. Ron explained to the newer members a little more about the Samboree. Our chapter has been the largest donor in California for the past 3 years. We plan on selling breakfast burritos Friday and Saturday morning as long as the Victorville Fairgrounds does not charge us extra fees and a percentage of the profits. All proceeds go to Dogs for the Deaf.
Treasurer's report:
Amy reported for Don Duncan. On August 31, 2005 the chapter had a balance of $5161.00.
Communications:
Ron Malanosky reported we have six members who have had their licenses 50 years or more. The 40 meter band has been awful. Low sun spots and high eruptions are a problem. The 75 meter band is better but we have very few check ins.
Wagon Master:
Whitney Bike Ride we need more members to volunteer.
Boulder Creek Campout We will have a catered dinner. Anyone interested in arriving early can camp at Tuttle Creek for a nominal fee.
Bill Willeford gave a report from Les Cobb and said some of the guys from the Sacramento area are
planning to come.Midland- Jack Hoke reported on the Midland campout. We will have stone soup and maybe fireworks. The fee is only $10.00 and we should bring firewood.
VE:
Jack Hoke reported the FCC may eliminate the code test part of becoming a general next year. If you take the test at a meeting it is free. To renew your license go to FCC.GOV. Jack has a grid dip oscillator if any one would like to borrow it.
Sgt. at Arms:
Edie Ryan said she has collected $9.00 over a period of time. Proceeds go to DFD.
Good will:
Alan and Janet Broughton are loving Texas.

Golden Shore RV Park Long Beach
August 15-19, 2005
President Jan Clements called the meeting to order at 9:00. The pledge was recited. Linda Preston gave the invocation. Hugs were exchanged.
Introduction of guests: We had a guest last night for dinner. Rudy from the Queen Mary. And Don and Vi Barrett were introduced as new members.
Phil MacBride moved the minutes be accepted. Mary Holzgang seconded. Motion carried.
President report: Jan called on Ed Schnelbach to report on the up coming Samboree. Since we will be selling the burritos* we will have preferred parking and do not have to come in as a group. We do need to make reservations so the committee knows how many spots to save. We will be selling burritos 3 mornings. Roger Kepner will be organizing that part. We will have a "practice run" making the burritos at the Boulder Creek campout.
The 2006 nominating committee headed by Ron Malanosky will consist of some past presidents and their wives. A luncheon will be set up for the meeting.
The December Holiday Party will be at the Emerald Desert RV Resort in Palm Desert. Dinner will be $15.00 including wine. There will be a choice of 3 entrees. The board will also serve a breakfast.
The board decided to use Breast Awareness postage stamps on the HOG for the remainder of the year. A cost to the chapter of $10.00.
Treasurer report: Don had sent a message that we are in good shape.
Wagon Master: Harry thanked Mary and Tom. The campout would not have been possible without their help.
Pyramid Lake: We have 13 sign ups and need more. The deadline has been moved to the end of the month. There are great plans for the Korean BBQ. A trip on the old Ridge Route is planned.
Whitney Bike Ride: Les Cobb is chairman.
Boulder Creek : We will have a catered dinner at the club house. Roger is planning the activities.
Midland on the Slabs: Jack and Alice are hosts and have special surprises planned.
Lake Cahuilla: We would like to have a day at the Palm Springs Follies. In order to get the group discount we need 20 people. Let Amy know if you are interested.
Web Master / ARRL / HOG Editor: Bill needs the items for the HOG in by Monday, August 22. He commended Jean and Flo as they spend hours on their columns. He asked that we send him the articles in Word. We are waiting on the FCC to decide if the CW requirements will be changed.
Communications: Ron said the conditions are still very bad. Karl Lassey suggested moving our net to Condor.
Sgt. at Arms: Sally has collected $.50. Last month Joan collected $4.00 All proceeds go to Dogs for the Deaf.
Dogs for the Deaf: Ed thanked Jim Ware for his CD he had made of our campouts. We have collected $120.00 from the sale of the CDs.
It is time to start thinking of prizes for our raffle at the December party. With a letter from the chapter merchants have donated some very nice raffle prizes. The last 3 years we were number 1 in the state of California.
Good Will: It was so good to see Bill and Madolyn at the happy hour and at the meeting.
Linda asked that we save our wine corks for Alice. She will use them for our table decorations at the Holiday Party.
Mary suggested we bring any of our left-overs from last nights dinner to the happy hour.
Gina has had her rig cleaned and polished and she has the mans card. She and Tak are downsizing and her rig will be for sale. She also has sego palms and other plants for sale with proceeds going to Dogs for the Deaf.

Presidents announcements:
The State Committee meeting will be September 13-15 at Costa Del Sol RV park in Hemet. There are several articles in the Sam A Gram written by Roger Kepner. Jan also announced that Richard Joyce had been voted in as a new member.
Vice President: Ed Schnelbach reported the company store was open. He had attended the State Committee meeting last month. Our chapter will be serving breakfast burritos and he encouraged all members to attend. He thanked Jim Ware for making the CDs. Carmela Remsen Asst. Director of Good Sams was so impressed with our group at the Hemet campout she is studying to get her ham license.
Treasurer: Don Duncan reported a balance of $4,1044.23 as of June 30, 2005. We are in good shape. Dick Gird moved we accept the report. Bob Abolafia seconded. Motion carried.
Wagon Master:
Amy MacBride reported on the August camp out in Long Beach. A free tour of the Queen Mary is planned. A Back to your Roots potluck is also on the agenda. Bring something that reflects your heritage.
Pyramid Lake campout is Sept. 13-15. We will have a Korean BBQ, sake tasting and a tour of the Old Ridge Route. The park has hook ups, and two bedroom cabins. The price is the same for early or late attendees. Clements and Abolofias will host.
Roger Kepner reported Riverside County is now accepting reservations for our New Years Eve campout. Call them for reservations.
Ham O Gram: Gina said to call her if you do not receive your Ham O Gram. She and Tak get them in the mail as soon as they get them.
Communications: Ron Malanosky reported the nets have been terrible due to "conditions". A week ago there were no visible sun spots. He has "The Next 5 Years " booklets for sale.
VE Testing: Jack Hoke said they are asking the FCC to reduce the requirements for the code testing. Ron has practice tapes for those who would like to upgrade.
Sgt. at Arms: Joan Malanosky reported she had collected $4.25
Goodwill: Glen Schmitt has had another surgery. He and Charlotte miss being at the campouts. Gene Thompson says "hi".
Announcements: Birthday greetings went to Dolores, Shirley, and Bob.
New Business: Jan gave a going away card to Don and Barbara Schleuse and wished them well. They have sold their home and are building a new one in Washington.
Jim Ware presented Bob and Shirley Schaper with a banner to commemorate their new rig.

The meeting was called to order at 9:01 by President Jan Clements. The invocation was given by Doris Smith. Then it was hug time.

Presidents report: Jan gave a brief report of our successful 25th anniversary party. She gave Alan and Janet Broughton best wishes on their move to Texas and presented them with a DVD of the anniversary campout.

He has badges, hats and other things for sale. He also invited us to visit them at their new home in Austin. He has 3 RV hookups.

Harry thanked Janet and Alan Broughton, Betty and Jim Martin for the successful campout. The July campout will be in Julian. The August campout will be at Golden Shores RV Park. There are 12 spaces left. Send your reservations to Mary Holzgang. There will be a tour of the Queen Mary and see their radio room. A Back to your Roots pot luck dinner is planned. The September 13-15 campout at Pyramid Lake will have a Korean theme.

May 5-7 2005
The meeting was called to order by President Jan Clements at 9:05. The pledge to
the flag was recited. Linda Preston gave the invocation and hugs were exchanged.
Vice President Alan Broughton introduced Howard and Carmela Ramsen, Assistant
Director of Good Sams. Our very first president Chuck
Ryder and his wife Wilma were also introduced. Chuck was honored with an
emeritus membership in our chapter. He was our president 4 of
the first 5 years of the chapter. We had no first time members.
Dave Pais moved to accept the April minutes as published. Jan Broughton seconded
the motion. Motion carried.
President: Jan announced that Alan and Janet Broughton will be moving to
Texas. We will miss them very much and wish them well. At the
officers meeting Ed Schnelbach was approved to be acting Vice President until
the end of the year. A copy of the Sam A Gram is on display.
There are articles written by Glenda Schnelbach and Barbara Schleuse in it.
Roger Kepner will continue to send articles to the Sam A Gram
and to Highways Magazine about our chapter. Ed and Glenda Schnelbach will be
representing our chapter at the State Committee meeting
in Paso Robles May 13-15. Good Sam Clean Up Day will be this month.

Les Cobb sends his greetings. Harry thanked the hosts for this campout. Alan
reported on the Paso Robles campout in June. Lots to do - Morro Bay, Hearst
Castle, wine tasting. Hosts will provide side dishes and we are to bring our own
meat. August campout in Long Beach Shoreline Marina.
September campout will be at Pyramid Lake.
Roger Kepner reminded us to call Lake Cahuilla in June (6months before arrival
date) to reserve our spot for the New Years Party. Marcia and Dick Bruno will
cohost.
The Lacys and Smiths volunteered to host the May campout in May 2006.
Hog / Web / ARRL /: Bill DeSmith
The web page has been changed to the May menu page. There is a tribute song to
the past heroes of our conflicts. The time schedule for articles to be published
in the HOG is on the web. He thanked Tak and Gina for their prompt work in
mailing the HOG out.

The bands have been terrible and will continue on the down hill slide until 2007
when the sun spots will improve.
Membership: Howard Wedell
He met with our first assistant Director and he asked to be added to our
membership list. Please keep him up to date with any changes in
email addresses or phone numbers.
VE Testing: Jack Hoke
We had one upgrade last month. Don Schleuse upgraded to general. He asked if
anyone was planning on testing next month.
Sgt. At Arms: Sally Lassey
Several members have donated money on their own as she failed to notice their
missing badges.
Goodwill: Charlotte Schmitt started chemo and is doing fine. Flo
Richardson says hello. Gene Thompson would love to be here. Virginia Brown is
doing well. Gretchen Kaufman has a pacemaker and she too is doing well.
Dogs for the Deaf: Ed Schnelbach
We made $59.00 at the book sale. The CD made by Jim Ware is available for $5.00
with proceeds going to DFD. There are a few T-shirts for sale at $12.00. Gina
has some plants for sale. She has already collected $25.00.

Alan told us about the Paso Robles campout in June. He suggested we see the
movie Sideways before coming.Don Duncan talked about the July campout in Julian. He reminded us that the county needs our reservation deposit by June 4th. The park is at 4,000 feet
and is designed for caravans.Harry said the August campout will be in Long Beach. Tom Herren is trying to arrange a tour of the radio room at the Queen Mary.

The BPL (Broadband Over Power Line) system in Richardson, Texas has been closed. The ARRL spent considerable time taking noise measurements.
A mobile Ham Radio Book is being prepared by ARRL. Go to the SRH website for instructions for submitting photos of RV setups.
The SRH website will carry a photo of Vickie the harpist who entertained us last night.
Tak and Gina had the HOG in the mail the day after receiving it. Many thanks to them.

Tucalota Springs RV Park March 13, 2005
President Jan Clements called the meeting to order at 9:30 am. The pledge was recited. Linda Preston gave the invocation. Hugs were exchanged.

President Report:
Jan reported the Sam A Gram had an article about us in the latest issue. The information is picked up from our web site. Roger Kepner voluntered to send more detailed information about our chapter on a regular basis to them. The Sam A Gram comes out 4 times a year. May 13-15 there is a Good Sam Rally in Paso Robles. Ed and Glenda Schnelbach plan to attend.
Jan has heard from our first chapter president and he is planning on attending our 25th Anniversary campout in May. The Assistant Director of Good Sam is also planning on attending.
On the 9:00 net Joan Malanosky reported Ron should be able to come home today. He had an appendectomy. Audrey McClellan is doing better. She went to church for the first time this morning.
Treasurer:
Don Duncan reported a bank balance of $6061.00. $257 has been spent on the Anniversary booklet. Tak and Gina are doing a good job of keeping the costs down.

Linda Preston reported we have 20 registrations so far for the April campout in Chula Vista. She gave an over view of the scheduled activities. There will be a welcome dinner, and a tour of the USS Midway. The Chula Vista Visitor Center gave her lots of handouts, which she put on display.
Howard reported the May campout will be in Hemet and the June one in Paso Robles.
Bob Retizel moved the treasures report be accepted as corrected. Motion carried.
Hog / ARRL / Web Master:
Bill DeSmith reported the last day to submit articles for the next HOG is March 28.

Membership:
Howard Wedell announced the new roster is out. We have 81 members. Send him any corrections or e-mail revisions. He also has cell phone numbers for members and can e-mail them via EXCEL if you want them. Jan thanked him for giving her the names and addresses of former members. All have been invited to the May anniversary dinner.

Dogs for the Deaf:
Ed Schnelbach read a letter from Dogs for the Deaf. Our chapter received the Top Dog Award for the State of California. We are the number 1 donor from our state and also in the top 10 in the country.
Our chapter will be serving the breakfast burritos at the Samboree in October for 3 mornings. We will need to form a committee. A sign up sheet was passed around to see who planned on attending. Proceeds going to Dogs for the Deaf.
Goodwill:
Glad reported Charlotte Schmitt is doing well and says Hi. Maxine Mooneyham is doing fine and enjoys e-mails. Good wishes to Ron and we hope he gets better quickly. Forest Hogue went to the emergency room 2 times this month. He is feeling better now. Mutt is doing fine.
Don Duncan announced that the chapter store will be open after the meeting.
Old Business:
Glenda has raffle tickets for sale at 5 for $20.00 for the quilt made by Clarice Marteeny. Proceeds will go to Dogs for the Deaf.

Palm Canyon RV Resort, - Borrego Springs Feb. 1, 2005
The meeting was called to order at 9:00 by President Jan. The pledge was recited. Bill Lacy gave the invocation. Hugs were exchanged.
We welcomed Jim and Betty Martins grandson, Blake and new members Larry and Linda Johnson.

Announcements:
Jan reported the location of the May campout has been changed from Pechanga to Mt. Valley Resort in Hemet.
Ron Malanosky and Jim Ware have been working on a supplement to the 20th anniversary book. This supplement will be given out free to all those attending the Hemet 25th anniversary campout. The dates are May 5,6,7, 2005.
Jan said she had attended the State Committee meeting.
Treasurer: Don reported a balance of $3,771 in the treasury as of Jan. 28th. He distributed financial reports.
Wagon Master: Harry gave us the information on the Tucalota Springs campout and had sign up sheets available.
Phil MacBride talked about the April campout in Chula Vista. There will be a welcome dinner and a tour of the USS Midway.
Karl Lassey reported the reason we are switching from Pechanga to Hemet was due to a catering policy change. The hosts are working on the details now.
Harry went through the list of the next campouts.
HOG/ARRL/Webmaster: Bill said the director of the FCC has tendered his resignation. We are waiting for a new appointment.
The Feb. web site is up. He will have photos from this campout on soon. Bill asked members to send only their best shots to him, not the whole disc. The HOG was out on time and he thanked Tak and Gina. Bill encouraged us to send RV related articles to him. As space permits he will publish them.
Frank asked how many had seen the video on the web site.

VE Testing: Jack had nothing to report.
Sgt. at Arms: Sally reported she had collected quite a bit of money.
Communications: Ron reported there will be changes in the Sunday net. Only two of the appointed chairmen AARL and Communications will be called on to report.
Dogs for the Deaf: Ed said he talked to the powers that be at the State Committee meeting about our chapter serving breakfast burritos at next years Samboree. Proceeds from the sale would go to Dogs for the Deaf. He is waiting for confirmation on this from Walt Willie. Dates for the Samboree are Oct. 28,29,30. It was suggested Carole and Roger Kepner be on this committee as they have experience in cooking for a group. The theme for next year is Easter Parade.
Good Will: Jean Bronson read letter from Virginia Brown thanking us for our donations to Dogs for the Deaf in memory of her late husband Landon. She donated their SRH vests back to the chapter.
Announcements: Ron said there is a time change for the Happy Hour and Dinner for tonight. HH will be at 4:00 and dinner at 5:30. HH will be in space 96 weather permitting. They plan a campfire with charades at 7:00.
Old Business:
Ron moved we rescind the action taken at the Hemet campout regarding men wearing hats at dinner. Alice seconded the motion. Much discussion followed.
Ron then moved that in deference to those members who find the wearing of hats objectionable at dinnertime the chapter requests men refrain from wearing hats when eating dinner indoors at a campout. Alice seconded the motion. A lively discussion followed. Motion defeated by a 21-18 vote.
New Business: Gina has plumeria cuttings for sale. Large ones 2 for $5.00 and small for $1.00. Proceeds go to Dogs for the Deaf.
The results of the jigsaw puzzle contest were announced. The team captained by Marcia Bruno was the winner and awarded a $26.00 prize.
Joan will lead a hike up Palm Canyon. About a 2 hour trip.
Carole announced Marcia Bruno and group will be performing Feb 5 in Lakewood.

Lake Cahuilla, La Quinta, December 31, 2004
The first meeting of the new year was called to order by President, Jan Clements, at 10:01. She led us in the Pledge to the flag. Linda Preston gave the invocation. Hugs were exchanged.
Ed Schnelbach introduced Karlee his grandaughter as his and Glenda's guest.
Jack Hoke moved to accept the minutes as printed in the HOG and on the web page. Glad Duncan seconded. The motion carried.
Announcements: Jan thanked the hosts, Don and Barbara Schleuse, Dave and Sandy Pais, and Bill and Madolyn Lacy.
Treasurer: Don Duncan reported as of December 27th we had a balance of $4,597. We have advance registrations of $1150.00. This is a little higher average than the past three years. He circulated copies of the financial report.
Wagon Master: Dave Pais announced the Barnyard net would be at 9:00 am.
Jan announced that the Good Sam State Committee meeting would be Jan. 22 in Victorville. She asked for volunteers to go with her.
Ron Malanosky reported on the Borrego Springs campout on Jan. 31-Feb. 1. He has received 22 reservations and 25 spaces have been reserved. Team captains have been selected and teams will vie for prizes in a jigsaw puzzle building contest. We will have a southwestern potluck in the clubhouse.
Bob Reitzel reported on the March campout. It will be at Tucalota Springs. We have 20-25 sites near the clubhouse. We will have a western style catered dinner. Bingo is also planned.
Dave asked if we had any ideas for next years New Years campout. Discussion followed. The Kepners and Brunos had already made reservations at Lake Cahuilla for next year and volunteered to host the campout Dec. 29-Jan 1.
Unfinished Business: Ron Malanosky announced to the group he was giving fair warning that at the next meeting he wants to bring to a vote a motion to let men wear their hats/caps when we eat indoors.
New Business: Marcia Bruno thanked everyone for the cards and phone calls while she was recuperating from her broken wrist.
Jack Hoke reported the FCC may change the code rules. Anyone can put ask to have the rules changed. The FCC will ask for comments but so far they have not taken any action.
AARL/ Web Master: Bill DeSmith reported on BPL. (Broadband by Power Line). The web site has changed to the New Years mode. Frank Clements has a video on the site. Tak and Gina had the HOG in the mail Dec. 24, and had been able to adjust the printing so our pictures will be clearer.
VE: Jack reported he has had no new customers.
Sergeant at Arms: Sally reported we have several members who on the honor system paid her $.50.
Communications: Ron reported the band conditions have been dreadful for 2 years. Geomagnetic disturbances are causing it. Anyone interested in upgrading their licenses see him as he has code quick tapes for loan. QRZ.com is a good web site for getting questions and answers.
Dogs for the Deaf: Ed thanked everyone for their participation. He thanked Lee Rietzel for sending the thank you letters to all that had donated prizes for the raffle.
Goodwill: Alma reported that Gay James says hello. Gina reported Gene Thompson had a good Christmas with his family and says Hi to everyone.
Jack Hoke moved for adjournment. Seconded by Sally. Motion carried.
